TNFD sector guidance

The Taskforce on Nature related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) has issued draft sector guidance for organisations operating across the technology and communications value chain. It covers six SICS® industries from semiconductors and hardware to software, internet services and telecoms, and is designed to help companies apply the LEAP approach in a sector where nature impacts and dependencies are often overlooked but increasingly material.

The draft includes:

  • sector specific guidance on applying LEAP
  • proposed disclosure metrics tailored to tech and communications
  • dependency and impact matrices
  • illustrative lists of environmental assets, ecosystem services, risks, opportunities and response actions

This guidance builds on the TNFD’s 2023 recommendations and complements existing tools such as ENCORE and sector work by Business for Nature, WBCSD and the World Economic Forum.

The TNFD is explicitly seeking feedback from corporates, financial institutions, academics, NGOs, regulators and other stakeholders to ensure the guidance is clear, practical and useful. All comments submitted by 10 April 2026 will inform the final version, expected in June.

Feedback can be provided directly through the TNFD’s online consultation page
