Business models report

The second edition will be formally launched during EU Green Week 2026: Investing in a nature-positive economy, taking place in Brussels from 3-4 June.

Financing the nature-positive transition is critical to redirecting capital flows toward sustainable land use, ecosystem restoration, and biodiversity protection, as reflected in the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF). There has been a growing recognition of the potential of investments in nature, such as in Nature-based Solutions (NbS), to address environmental challenges while delivering multiple socio-economic benefits.

Aiming to foster a more sustainable relationship between resilient ecosystems and finance activities, this paper, developed by finance sector members of the EU Business & Biodiversity (B&B) Platform, presents ten existing practices of investments and finance for nature that have developed sound business cases and benefited from private finance sector involvement.

Building on the 2024 edition, this second edition highlights four new and six existing practices drawn from high-opportunity sectors based on materiality, impact, and significance by which an investment contributes to GBF goals and targets:

  1. ASR Dutch Farmland Fund
  2. BNP Paribas Environmental Solutions Fund
  3. SLM Silva Fund
  4. Triodos Bank Wyre River Natural Flood Management Project

The report and summary feature a growing number of privately funded nature investments, demonstrating that while public funding remains the primary financer, private finance, through innovative schemes, can also drive impact and generate significant financial returns.

Members of the Workstream Finance presented early insights from the report at the European Business and Nature Summit (EBNS) 2025 in Helsinki.
